In larger companies, most printers are network interface printers. These printers offer a distinct advantage: Because you do not need to connect printers directly to the print server, you can place printers where you need them instead of where the print server is. To add a network interface printer, select Local Printer Attached To This Computer on the Local Or Network Printer page of the Add Printer Wizard. The main difference between adding a local printer and adding a network interface printer is that you provide additional port and network protocol information for a typical network interface printer. The default network protocol for Windows XP Professional is Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), which many network interface printers use. For TCP/IP, you provide additional port information in the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard. Figure 11-3 shows the Select A Printer Port page of the Add Printer Wizard, and Table 11-3 describes the options on this page that pertain to adding a network interface printer.

Prefetching using a subselect is a powerful optimization; we ll show you a few more details about it later, when we walk through a typical scenario. Subselect fetching is, at the time of writing, available only for collections, not for entity proxies. Also note that the original query that is rerun as a subselect is only remembered by Hibernate for a particular Session. If you detach an Item instance without initializing the collection of bids, and then reattach it and start iterating through the collection, no prefetching of other collections occurs. All the previous fetching strategies are helpful if you try to reduce the number of additional SELECTs that are natural if you work with lazy loading and retrieve objects and collections on demand. The final fetching strategy is the opposite of on-demand retrieval. Often you want to retrieve associated objects or collections in the same initial SELECT with a JOIN.

Description This selection starts the process of creating a new port for the print server to which the network interface print device is connected. In this case, the new port points to the network connection of the print device. This selection determines the network protocol to use for the connection. If you select Standard TCP/IP, it starts the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.

Lazy loading is an excellent default strategy. On other hand, you can often look at your domain and data model and say, Every time I need an Item, I also need the seller of that Item. If you can make that statement, you should go into your mapping metadata, enable eager fetching for the seller association, and utilize SQL joins:

Package-based deployment methods enable administrators to install applications on workstations with a minimum of interaction. A package is essentially a database file with an .msi extension that contains everything a computer needs to install and run a particular application. Packages contain the application files themselves, as well as registry settings, installation instructions, and other application components. Windows Installer, the installation engine incorporated into Windows 7 and all other Windows versions since Windows 2000, reads the instructions from the package and installs the application on the computer without needing an interactive setup program. Windows 7 associates the .msi file extension with Windows Installer, so you can simply execute an MSI package manually to begin the installation process. However, you also can automate the deployment of package files, using Group Policy or SCCM 2007.
